How is this calculated?
For each date the tool computes the position of the Moon relative to the Sun and Earth for the evening in your time zone. The phase, the lit share and the zodiac sign follow from that. Everything runs on your own screen; nothing is stored.

What was the moon phase on the day I was born?
Enter your birth date above. The tool computes the Moon’s position for that evening with an astronomical ephemeris and shows the phase, the illuminated percentage and the zodiac sign the Moon was in.
How do I find my moon sign?
The sign shown next to “moon in” is your moon sign in tropical astrology. The Moon moves into a new sign a little more than every two days on average, so if it changed on your birthday your birth time decides which sign applies.
Does my time zone matter?
Only on days when the phase changes. The tool calculates for the evening of the chosen date in your own time zone. Near a new or full moon, someone born on the other side of the world on the same date may have a slightly different phase.
Is my birth date stored?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The date only appears in the page address if you share the link.
What does moon phase compatibility mean?
It is a popular idea that couples or friends born under related moon phases get along in a certain way. It is entertainment and astrology, not science. The compare option simply shows both moons side by side.
