About this site

One person, one ephemeris.

fullmoon2027.com is a one-person project. No newsroom and no ads, just moon data I compute myself and an honest explanation of what it means.

Who

Made by Geert Jan van Vlastuin.

I build websites, and the Moon keeps turning up in them. What I kept missing was a calendar that is simply right for the person reading it: exact times, the correct date for your own time zone, and no conversion errors. Many popular lists give one time zone and leave the rest of the world a day off, and some have dates that are wrong in every zone.

So this site computes all 12 full moons and 13 new moons of 2027 to the minute, shows them in UTC and your own time, and explains the supermoons, the blue moon and the eclipses of the year. Where science says something, it is stated. Where something is tradition or astrology, it is labeled as such.

The method

How the times are made.

01

The moments

The exact moment of every full moon, new moon and quarter comes from astronomy-engine, an open-source astronomical library that computes the positions of the Sun, Earth and Moon. Nothing is copied from other lists; every date is calculated.

02

The time zones

Every moment is stored in UTC and converted to 12 time zones with the official time zone database, daylight saving time included. Your own zone is added in your browser. That is why a date on this site can differ by a day from a table in another zone, and why this site shows both.

03

Moonrise and eclipses

Moonrise, moonset and the Moon’s height are computed for 14 cities. Eclipse times and coverage are computed for each place on the eclipse page, for the city center.

04

The check

All 50 full and new moons of 2026 and 2027 were compared with the US Naval Observatory. The largest difference is 1.3 minutes, which is within the rounding of the USNO’s own minute-precision table.

05

The zodiac sign

The sign listed with each moon is the astrological sign of the tropical zodiac, derived from the Moon’s ecliptic longitude at that moment. It is not the same as the constellation the Moon appears in front of.

The check against the US Naval Observatory.

Every full and new moon of 2026 and 2027, computed on this site, next to the time published by the USNO (checked 2026-09-12). The USNO lists times to the whole minute; this site computes to the second.

50 moments compared. Largest difference: 1.3 minutes.

What this site is and is not

Astronomy first, astrology alongside.

The data on this site is astronomical: when the Moon is full, how far away it is, when an eclipse happens and where it can be seen. That is measurable and checkable.

The zodiac sign with each moon, and the meanings and rituals attached to it, are astrology. That is a tradition, not a science, and it is presented that way here.

This site gives no health, medical or safety advice beyond one rule that matters: never look at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses.

Photos and video are from NASA’s public image library, the moon phase video from NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio. The fire footage is my own.
